Domestic Violence Information


Section 3 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 defines it as any act which results in harm or injures or endangers the health, safety and causes physical abuse, sexual abuse, verbal and emotional abuse and economic abuse. Domestic violence can also result in death. Physical violence such as beating, slapping, hitting with hand/objects, punching, kicking, pushing, shoving, pulling of hair etc. are all considered domestic violence, in India. Emotional and verbal abuse which are considered to be of the nature of domestic violence, also, constant demands for dowry ridicules, name calling insults regarding child bearing and son preference or not bringing dowry are considered domestic violence.
